Update : After watching the movie, the way I hear the songs changed. Changed completely…. The songs are tailor made for the movie and it fits perfectly with it. The songs are not at all used as fillers but convey the story at that point. Whether it is the opening title track Puthiya Manitha ya the Chitty Dance Showcase, every song is with a reason. If the song has lyrics like, Neutron Electron Unn Neela Kannil Motham Ethanne, it is because that is the only way it can be. How else a scientist obsessed with his research sing… ;) I n the new light after the movie I am awestruck about the songs and Loved it more than ever….
Raavanan songs also were well woven to the story than a stand-alone album. No wonder great storytellers like Mani Ratnam and Shankar choose A R Rahman. Nobody else can do justice to the soundtrack like he does.

Though this site is mainly about movies, I guess our views about music also will be apt here. And we can not start with a bigger one than the magnum opus that is 'Enthiran'. Let us move to it, Enthiran As I Hear It...
The lavishness about the movie is obvious in the music too. Heavyweighters are there in credits. It can not get bigger. Rahman conducting the music, cream of singers ( lot of them too ) and veterans with the pen, our expectations are high. Whether it was justified, well, this is what I have for you.
Rahman got a new platform with the Human Robot movie and he has used it well. Though there is a batallian of singers there, nobody sound out of place. He has used them such a way that it will make us feel, this is the only way! A host of new sounds and blend them in a way only he can do is something you should look for. Saying that, I am giving you a hint not to look for poems in it. The lyrics sound shallow, way too shallow often.
Every moment you should keep in mind that this is a Rajnikant movie and the soundtrack will also be done for him. Use this for foot tapping music. And please do not judge the album at the first time. When you play it repeatedly, there is a good chance that you will appreciate the music. Let us see the songs one by one...
Puthiya Manidha
Sung by SP Balasubramaniam, AR Rahman and Khathija Rahman
Lyrics Vairamuthu
Ranjnikant needs an introduction song and here it is. The song start with robotic launching voices and the electronic voices ( including Rahman's ) do the rest. We can not stop appreciating SPB's magic. His voice has the power to make any song special.
Kadal Anukkal
Sung by Vijay Prakash and Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics Vairamuthu
Tried to blend Love with electronics! The shallow lyrics are made up by inspiring music and Vijay and Shreya. Beat is soothing and if you pretend you won't understand Tamil, this song can make you happy. Why they need to add neutron, electron, Newton at odd places to kill the song. Rahman's talent and effort is teased here.
Irumbile Oru Idhaiyam
Sung by AR Rahman and Kash 'n Krissy
Lyrics Karky, Kash n' Krissy
Another techno-track! Which tries to find heart and Love in steel. Hats-off to Rahman and the new rapper. The rap is too long and irritating at times. But got everything to be a chart topper.
Chitti Dance Showcase
With voices of Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani and Yogi B
One track live up to the title. Nothing to expect and you will be happy to get more than your expectations !
Arima Arima
Sung by Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam, Benny Dayal and Naresh Iyer
Lyrics Vairamuthu
Rajnikant Anthem. And in that perspective well done. Hariharan experimented a lot with this song and it gives it a special appeal.
Kilimanjaro
Sung by Javed Ali and Chinmayi
Lyrics Pa. Vijay
Use this as a dance number or the one to play loud in your car. Do not let the credit list excite you, Javed Ali and Chinmayi are wasted. And you can not blame Rahman for it. Kudos to Pa. Vijay to come with a song with this theme!
Boom Boom Robo Da
Sung by Yogi B, Keerthi Sagathia, Swetha Mohan and Tanvi Shah
Lyrics Karky
The album ends by reminding you that this indeed is a Rajnikant movie! Many singers have given their talent to this song. Let it pass. At times the female portion of the song reminds of Thigu Thigu from Anbe Aruyire.
