Rio - As I See It

Directed by : Carlos Saldanha
Studio : Blue Sky Studios
Distributed by : 20th Century Fox

The biggest attraction of this movie was that it is from the makers of Ice Age ( not withstanding the colourful world of birds ). After the third edition of the series, I became a huge fan of them. It was the first animation film I ever watched in theater and I thoroughly enjoyed it. After watching Rio, I felt regret for taking the Ice Age baggage…

The movie is colourful, simple, neat, witty, engaging. Not a great entertainer though. The emotional content ( something new age animation movies beautifully portray ) is shallow. The humour make you smile, but hardly makes you laugh out loud. Ice Age 3, the whole theater was enjoying the wits with loud laughs and the twists with oohhs and nooos. Here…

The voice characters of the movie is fantastic, especially Jesse Eisenberg as the metro-stupid Blu. His voice modulation helps the character a lot to paint its happy with the secure life he was granted, and never ever regrets for not to learn flying. ( his tries to learn flying is fantastic. You might have seen characters in real life that goes by theories than with the practicality ). The emotions, bonding, friendship, evil never wins story for kids – that part this movie scores. It will be definitely an interesting entertainment for kids. And for adults, if not expecting the Ice Age magic, can leave the theater happy.
My suggestion : For this vacation season it is a good time out. Kids will like the colourful world of the winged friends. They might get to learn a thing or two unknowingly ( something Finding Nemo scores high on ). The music is good. A worthy flight over the forest / carnival at Rio de Janeiro.
